Netflix has added a button to the iPhone app that allows you to subscribe via its website

Netflix has added a button to its iPhone app which directs users to its website, where they can subscribe. As 9to5MacNotesThis new button was released just months after Apple had announced it. “would allow developers of “reader” apps to include an in-app link to their website for account creation and management purposes.”

Netflix app for iPhone adds an external join button

Now, if you load up the Netflix app on your iPhone or iPad when you aren’t logged in, you’ll see the button at the bottom that links to netflix.com/join. You will be presented with a long warning prompt by tapping on the button.

Developer will manage all accounts and purchases made outside this app. “Netflix.”Your App Store account, your stored payment methods, as well as related features such subscription management and refund requests will be unavailable. Apple cannot be held responsible for transactions that are made through this developer.

Tap the button if that doesn’t scare you enough. “Continue” button. This will redirect to the Netflix registration webpage in your browser. From there, you’ll need to create an account, enter your payment information, and choose the plan you want.

This allows Netflix to skirt Apple’s 30% commission for in-app purchases. If you don’t sign up from within the app, all of the money goes to the developer.

Netflix raised the prices for all its plans earlier in the year.

The Basic plan, which includes only one screen and SD content but costs $8.99 to $9.99, has seen a $1 increase. Standard plans, which offer two screens and HD content, went up from $13.99 – $15.49. The Premium plan allows subscribers to view up to four screens in Ultra HD 4K Ultra HD and costs $17.99 to $19.99.

Why wait?

Although it may not seem like a big change, this is an important one for the Netflix app. In 2018, Netflix made it impossible to subscribe to the service via the iPhone app. At the same time, Apple ensured that Netflix wouldn’t be able to direct potential subscribers directly to its own website through the app.

Although it took some time, Apple clearly lost this battle. This is evident by the fact Netflix can now send users directly to its website for sign-up.
