NBC Discussions Giving Back Third Hour Of Nightly Primetime To Local Affiliates

NBC may give back prime time at 10 p.m. to local affiliates. This could be a significant turning point in the legacy broadcast TV model.

According to someone familiar with the situation and internal discussions, there has been no decision. Given the complicated web of agreements with advertisers and affiliates, it would take a year to make a decision.

““We are always looking at strategies to ensure that our broadcast business remains as strong as possible,”In a statement to Deadline, NBC spokesperson stated that they were not aware of the situation. “As a company, our advantage lies in our ability to provide audiences with the content they love across broadcast, cable and streaming.”

NBCUniversal would be able to reduce its commitment to broadcast primetime hours, which would alleviate the pressure to fund a linear line-up at a time of declining viewership and subscriptions.
