“Mystery Man” in Maine drops off bags of much-needed staples to the Food Pantry

The South Portland Food Pantry would like to thank the kindhearted person who donated a dozen Target bags filled with goodies.

As Christmas draws near, pantry workers struggle with distribution shortages like everyone else and are concerned about providing supplies to people who need them.

“I think part of it is the end of the quarter, end of the year, and supply chain issues. It’s up in the air. You just never know what’s going to be available,”Dwayne Hopkins, executive director, said News Center Maine.

Each week, the pantry distributes 13 tons of food. Hopkins explained that the staff was worried about what to make of the low grocery donations and how people would like to get more food over the holidays.

Workers have given the anonymous donor a nickname. “The Mystery Man.”He unloaded the bags, which were filled with cake mix, flour, spices, can openers, and then he vanished.

“He came at the right time with the right stuff. He didn’t call ahead. He just picked up the right stuff from his heart, and there it was,” Hopkins said.

Can openers were the perfect touch because many people who live in their cars and motel rooms don’t have them.

“Whoever he is, we really appreciate his generosity!”Staff wrote on the The Facebook page of pantry.

Workers stated that the food center still needs canned goods like corn and carrots.
