It was clear that Mike Myers and his co. were reprising their roles in the Super Bowl commercial. Despite no sign of Austin Powers in years, Myers found some unexpected fans – the British monarch. During a visit at Buckingham Palace, London, the Saturday Night LiveAlumna recalled the Austin Powers tribute.
Myers spoke out about the surprising event during his interview. The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon. Canadian-born native said he was a huge admirer of Queen Elizabeth II. [and]Background check and all that stuff. Being English – my parents are from Liverpool, England, so it’s a huge deal. We were allowed to enter. and then the band comes out, and they’re playing that, you – Ba-da-da-da-da. You know, all that, and I’m like, ‘Oh, this is so amazing.’They then break into the “Austin Powers”They started to play ‘Soul Bossa Nova’ as their theme.
It’s a wonderful tribute to Austin Powers & Myers. Given his English roots, it was nice of the guards to acknowledge the film series’ influence. The surprise tribute made sense. He enjoyed it. Wayne’s WorldAnother unexpected incident occurred to actor.
I couldn’t believe it. One of the guards walked by holding a flag, and they’re not supposed to talk. He continues. ‘Oh, I bet you’ve heard this song, Mr. Myers.’ And I’m like, ‘Don’Please don’t speak to me! You’re not allowed to talk! Don’t talk! I’m Canadian, I’m gonna get in trouble!’
Myers was able to see that the guard was violating royal protocol. He didn’t want him or the guardsman to get in trouble for talking. The Shrek star didn’t want his moment to be taken away. But at least he received confirmation that even royals were watching his work.
Fallon couldn’t let the opportunity pass Myers by to ask about Austin Powers 4. The actor was coy with his answer by hinting he couldn’t confirm nor deny the third sequel. Even open to the idea of a Dr. Evil spinoff. He explained to his fellow that he was too busy raising his children and he was reassured. SNL alum, saying he’ll see what he can do.
