Mayim Bialik's Biggest Challenge on The Big Bang Theory might Surprise You

A 2015 interview with VarietyMayim Bialik stated that Amy’s role was challenging because her character was so different from Jim Parsons’ portrayal. “Everybody loves Jim Parsons, and we don’t need another Jim Parsons,”Bialik stated. “He’s perfect the way he is. So my challenge has been how to give my character different flavors, so she’s not just imitating him.”

She said that it was particularly difficult for her because of her lack in classical training as an actor. “Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting and I are the only ones who didn’t go to conservatory,” Bialik admitted. “I do feel a certain sense of inadequacy sometimes. I worry about it. Is my process adequate? But that’s also the nice thing. [I]t’s such a gentle cast. We all help each other out.”

Amy and Sheldon are very different characters. Sheldon doesn’t seem interested in sex while Amy is more interested in it, with the exception of her first appearances. An article by Queer VoicesJenna-Nichole Conrad, author, argues that Sheldon may be asexual. “The Big Bang Theory”Sheldon’s friends pressure him to have sexual relations, which is an example of asexual suppression. Conrad points to the fact that Amy is not a part of the pressure. Bialik is not a classically trained actor but she created a character that was both a companion and a clone of Sheldon.
