My mother, my sister, and brother all live in Occidental. So my mom called me in the middle night to get on a truck from LA to help load horses trailers and move livestock. Then she asked me to go around picking up animals.
The Tubbs and Nuns Fires were near Occidental, where the actor was born. According to The Press DemocratTubbs Fire claimed 40 lives and destroyed more than 6,000 homes. Thieriot recalled the experience of returning to Occidental and said:
It was chaos. It was surreal and unbelievable. The fire spread everywhere it was. People just couldn’t imagine this ever happening. And after it was all over, I was driving around, and it was just hard to digest … all over Mark West, and then to drive past and see (Cardinal) Newman (High School) and Coffey Park. The devastation was overwhelming.
