The group had to remove some elements of Campaign One of “The Legend of Vox Machina” but it wasn’t all bad news. The animation adaptation gave them the opportunity to introduce new aspects to the story that were not present on the live streams.

Few people know that Campaign One did not begin with the first episode. The voice actors had been playing for many years prior to the streaming. In “The Legend of Vox Machina”, Critical Role provided information about the days before streaming. Marisha Raymond said that they played for three years in their living rooms before turning a camera to the live stream. Marisha Ray said in the Collider interview that there were a number of things to learn from home gaming sessions. “We could show fans of tabletop RPGs something they had never seen before, and it was also new to them.”

The animated series “The Legend of Vox Machina”, although it differs from that of the original campaign of the group, is faithful to its characters and their dynamics. Matt Mercer said in the same interview that early adventures of the Vox Machina group were important for shaping their personalities. Mercer did not direct adapt them to the series, but he made sure “The Legend of Vox Machina’ featured the episodes as a brand new beginning. Mercer stated that it was “really fun” to create a new story in the beginning. I’m excited for people to see it for the very first time.
