Man Utd fans beg club to sign “missing piece” Declan Rice after West Ham display

Manchester United supporters have been pleading with the club to sign West Ham talisman Declan Rice.

The Hammers midfielder, 22, played against Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s men at the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon in a thrilling 2-1 victory for the away side.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Jesse Lingard got on the scoresheet to cancel out Saïd Benrahma’s opener.

The Premier League contest saw Rice’s impressive performance that excited many about his possible arrival.

The general consensus is that despite the recent additions to the attack and defence, with Jadon Sancho, Raphaël Varane, and Cristiano Ronaldo coming in, the holding midfield role is a spot in which the club still must fill.

After the victory in London, United fans took to social media to beg the club’s hierarchy that Rice is the perfect suit.

Declan Rice of West Ham United reacts
Declan Rice has been linked with a move away from West Ham for the past couple of seasons but so far nothing has transpired

One wrote: “Rice would transform our team…levels above McFred.”

Another said: “Declan Rice is the missing piece between Man Utd and the Premier League title.”

A third tweeted: “I thought Declan Rice was excellent for West Ham today. He would make a great United player.

“He’s very good in possession. His quick decision-making coupled with that burst of acceleration means he’s difficult to close down.”

United had been linked with several players in Rice’s position over the course of the summer transfer window, but Saul Niguez and Eduardo Camavinga signed for Chelsea and Real Madrid respectively, and the club failed to land someone to fulfil the role.

Scott McTominay fights for the ball at the London Stadium
Scott McTominay has not yet convinced Man United fans that he can be the sole operator in the holding midfield role at Old Trafford

Fred, McTominay and Nemanja Matic are the players currently at Solskjær’s disposal in the centre of midfield, but fans are worried that’s not enough to secure the club’s first title in eight years.

Rice isn’t unfamiliar with links outside of east London. Rice was reportedly a Chelsea target last season, but nothing happened.

The Kingston-born player has made 151 appearances for David Moyes’ side – and has enjoyed regular starts for England in recent years, too, earning 26 caps.
