Man in Indiana Falls Into Manure Lagoon

A man from Indiana died after he fell into a manure lagoon while installing new farm equipment.

Gordon Van Baren, a 30-year-old man, was missing around 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 14. He was helping to install new equipment with another farmer, Coroner Andrew Boersma explains in Edition Digital.

The other person fled the area, and upon their return they saw that the farm equipment had been moved and Van Baren was no longer visible.

They then contacted authorities, says Boersma.

The local fire department located and extracted Van Baren at 12:44 p.m. from the manure lagoon, Boersman.

The cause of death was exsanguination or blood loss, according to the coroner.

According to the coroner, blood loss was caused by Van Baren’s leg breaking the femoral arterial. Despite being found hours later, Van Baren died “almost instantaneously”After the artery was cut.
