Love And Thunder’s Gorr The God Butcher

Love And Thunder's Gorr The God Butcher

“Thor: Love and Thunder” opens with a sequence showing Gorr’s backstory. Basically, he wandered the desert, eventually losing his daughter. When he finally stumbles upon his god, he’s heartbroken to realize that the god doesn’t care about him or his daughter, so he vows to kill every god out there.

It’s a heartbreaking sequence. Who can’t empathize with a man who’s just lost his daughter? And fans seem to think this makes Gorr one of the better antagonists to come out of Marvel Studios. Redditor u/Bindingnom kicked off a discussion, saying, “This was the first time, in a verrry long time, that [I] actually felt the menace of the [villain] and jeopardy of the characters. [And] it was the first time [I] felt that [I] wanted to see more [of] the villain’s ‘adventures.'” A ton of people agreed, with many only wishing they had gotten to see more of Gorr in the flick. One user stated, “Definitely wish we could have seen at least one more scene of God Butchery.”

There may very well be more Gorr moments on the horizon if special features come out on the future DVD and Blu-Ray. In an interview with IGN, Bale mentioned how one particular scene had to be left on the cutting room floor: “It was perhaps a little bit too extreme to be included in the film, but there was a lot of wonderful stuff that we shot.” Gorr likely won’t come back to the MCU proper considering the film’s ending, but deleted scenes would be more than welcome if it means fans can spend a little bit more time with the God Butcher.
