Law and Order: SVU’s Most Recent Brutal Case Just Reminded me Why Mariska Hargitay’s Benson is The Heart Of The Franchise

Law & Order: SVUHas already been for More than 500 episodesAnd Mariska HargitayFor 24 seasons, he has been the driving force that kept the series alive and has made the series a hit with viewers. This was something I was reminded of more than ever while watching the series. “The Steps We Cannot Take,”Which showed an Olivia BensonWho is as passionate about finding justice for victims than she? Back in the pilot. This really demonstrated Hargitay’s emotional anchor, which makes her the heart and soul of the entire world. L&O franchise.

What happened in the latest case

After what appeared to be a simple home invasion, the case was taken to Special Victims. Detectives found out that a teenage girl was kidnapped. The investigation led them to two women who were held captive and raped repeatedly for many years. Their captor had two children, one of which was a little girl who was held captive.

When they found the bodies of the captor as well as the infant boy, the case took a new twist. The baby was strangled and the gunshot wound to his back had killed the man. The angle revealed that the baby had been strangled and the man was shot in the back of the head. Detectives were faced with the prospect of the girl and her mother going through hell if the murder case was pursued.

Benson had a loaded conversation with Trial Division Chief Lorraine Maxwell(played By) Betty BuckleyIn this agreement, they implicitly consented to let the murder case remain open and unsolved instead of prosecuting one of the victims or the girl. Maxwell needed convincing, but Benson remained focused on the victims of the particularly heinous crimes. “The Steps We Cannot Take.”The women were free and able to go on with their lives; they didn’t have to mourn the death of the husband. As an advocate for victims, she made the call.

Why Mariska Hargitay’s Olivia Benson Is The Heart Of The Franchise

Mariska Hargitay has been in far more episodes Law & Orderfranchise is more important than any other actor, even though we include Christopher Meloni’s stint on SVUBefore you take the lead Law & Order: Organized Crime Sam Waterston’s time on the original L&O The revival. But SVUIt hits an emotional note L&O OC don’t because Benson approaches just about every case with as much compassion and humanity as if it was her first.

Benson used her position in order to hide the truth. “The Steps We Cannot Take,” and Hargitay’s performance conveyed that it wasn’t an easy decision, but one that the captain made because she cares about the victims above all. This has been the case for Benson for 24 seasons, and counting. The very procedural is made real by her heartbreak. SVUFeel emotionally serialized. Even more than Organized CrimeAnd OCActually It is serialized!

Of course, the decision may come back to haunt her, as Maxwell not-so-subtly hinted that she wouldn’t stick up for her if anybody found out that she’d agreed to let Benson ignore the evidence about the killer. On the whole, this episode reminded me that Mariska Hargitay as Olivia Benson is the face of the franchise for a reason, and it’s hard to imagine SVUYou still have 500 episodes to go with another person at the top.
