Kevin McCarthy Delays House Vote, Speaking More Than 8 Hours

In opposition to President Biden’s social safety net package, Representative Kevin McCarthy, the minority leader, broke the record for the longest continuous House speech in modern history, delaying the vote to Friday morning.

Mr. Speaker, I think I owe an apology because I understand the Democrats have left and they want to recess when I’m done. And Mr. Speaker, I, I don’t know if they think they left, I’m going to stop. I’m not, I’m really not talking to them. I’m talking to the American people. This is the longest one minute I’ve ever given. It’s the longest one minute ever given in this body. There’s a reason why. This is a tipping point. This is a point of not coming back from. The American people have spoken. But unfortunately, Madam Speaker, the Democrats have not listened. This evening showed that no matter the time, the day or the circumstances, House Republicans will always fight for you, fight for your family and fight for our country. With that, Madam Speaker, I yield back.
