Ken Jennings, Jeopardy! host, laughs as JIT players miss iconic song clues – Matt Jackson’s win guaranteed

Jeopardy Host Ken Jennings Bursts into Laughter at Contestants’ Expense

JEOPARDY! host Ken Jennings has gotten a kick out of the contestants on Friday’s episode of the game show. Tonight Jeopardy! players Alan Lin, Matt Jackson, and Terry O’Shea competed against each other in the Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament.

Contestants Struggle with a Fun Clue

Matt started off the game strong, racking up money-laden points left and right. Alan and Terry were also on their A-game. However, Matt always seemed to be one step ahead. Matt’s first winning streak came to a brief halt after he chose a $600 clue from the Jeopardy! category The Lyrical Stylings of Johnny Gilbert. An unseen announcer read the clue, seemingly putting a little melody in his speaking voice to help the person who picked the clue out. “If you want my body, and you think I’m sexy, come on sugar, let me know, if you really need me, just reach out and touch me,” the aforementioned announcer read. Matt wasn’t able to solve the clue, and neither could his competition. All three remained silent, and let the timer run out. Ken began giggling when the buzzer sound hit, signaling that each player missed the clue. “Nobody? I’m feeling very old right now,” Ken said with a laugh.

Matt Takes Home a Win

Matt dominated the game after that, winning the first round of Jeopardy! with $9.6K, and scoring $41.2K by the end of Double Jeopardy! Alan and Terry trailed far behind Matt as they went into Final Jeopardy!, making Matt’s win imminent.

Matchups for JIT

Going into Final Jeopardy! Alan had $14K, and Terry had $5.8K. Matt took home the victory, finishing Final Jeopardy! at $41,321. He was also promoted to the show’s semi-finals.

What Is: The JIT?

The JIT is a new annual tournament airing from March 20, until early April. Unlike other tournaments this season, JIT opens the floodgates to iconic older champions who fans haven’t seen in decades. The three-week JIT sees past greats – some recent ones, and even contestants-turned-Chasers – back at the buzzer. The winner goes gets $100,000 and a slot in Masters Season 2, which airs in May on ABC Primetime. There will be nine quarterfinal games, three semifinals, and a best-of-four final. This means the legendary player who notches two final games wins the title. There are six spots in Masters, with the first three going to last season’s finalists – Matt Amodio, winner James Holzhauer, and Mattea Roach.
