Katherine Ryan says J-Lo taking Ben Affleck’s name ‘makes no sense’

Just three months after their announcement of their engagement in April, Ben Affleck married Jennifer Lopez in a quiet ceremony last week.

This is actually the pair’s second engagement, as Ben first proposed to the Hustlers star in November 2002. They announced their separation in January 2004 two years later.

Ben and-J Lo have been married for 20 years, twenty years after their first engagement. While fans have been sharing their excitement for the couple online, Katherine Ryan has stirred up the pot by sharing a tweet about J-Lo’s new surname.

J-Lo and Ben were married at A Little White Wedding Chapel, Las Vegas, Nevada on July 16. J-Lo shared the news via her newsletter, On The J-Lo. Write: “So with the best witnesses you could ever imagine, a dress from an old movie and a jacket from Ben’s closet, we read our own vows in the little chapel and gave one another the rings we’ll wear for the rest of our lives.”

Alexander McQueen designed the sleeveless, A-line dress that was used by Jersey Girl’s actress and singer. She also chose another dress for the occasion – an off-the-shoulder Zuhair Murad gown.

Ryan Wolfe, their minister, stated that you can. “absolutely”See the love that Ben and J-Lo shared.

He said People: “They definitely truly care and love each other. I’ve done probably 10,000 weddings now, and by this point in my life I get a feel of couples — I can really tell it was real.”

Katherine Ryan confused about J-Lo’s name decision

Katherine Ryan, comedian, shared a tweet after hearing that J-Lo had chosen the surname Affleck. She wrote Online: “Changing your name makes very little sense to me, but makes ZERO SENSE AT ALL when your name is Jennifer Lopez and you are J-Lo, Jenny from the Block, and you rode the 6 day and night to grow that name but ok, Jen Affleck…”

The tweet references Jenny from the Block, J-Lo’s 2002 hit song about her roots. Over and over, the lyrics of the song are stated. “I’m still Jenny from the block,”And she relays the message, that she will always be able to remember where she came originally, regardless of how famous or wealthy J-Lo is.

Ryan’s tweet was met with backlash from some women who called her out for criticizing J-Lo’s decision.

One person Responded: “Bad form!! Some woman [sic] want to change their name when they marry… being made to feel bad because they’ve made that choice makes no sense! Support your fellow female and her right to make independent choices.”

Others also jumped to J-Lo’s defense, with one Tweeting: “She never said she’s changing her name professionally like..? JLo is her brand and she’ll always be JLo. She simply changed her legal / personal name which most ppl do when they get married. It’s her prerogative either way and nothing to be pressed about.”

Many people pointed out that even though the star changed her legal name, she still goes by J-Lo professionally and on social media.
