Julia Roberts shares a remarkable connection to Martin Luther King Jr

The world is full of amazing encounters, but this one has to be one of the best we’ve heard of in a long time.

Julia Roberts may now be one of the world’s most famous actors but, it transpires, she didn’t have such an auspicious start to life.

When she was born her parents couldn’t afford the hospital bill but, luckily, wealthier friends were there to help them out.

So far, so normal you might think. Their generous benefactors turned out to be Martin Luther King Jr. Coretta Scott King.

This jaw-dropping revelation was revealed by Roberts during a conversation with Gayle King, a TV host. Erin Brockovich star’s 55th birthday.

Gayle inquired about her guest’s payment for the hospital bill at her birth. Roberts took a deep breath before Roberts smiled and said: “OK, her research is very good.”

The Oscar-winner revealed that her parents owned a theatre school in Atlanta at the time she became friends with the Kings.

“One day Coretta called my mother and asked if her kids could be part of the school because they were having a hard time finding a place that would accept her kids,”Roberts made the comment in reference to segregation which was a major problem in the United States in the 20th Century.

“My mom was like, ‘Sure, come on over,’ and so they all just became friends, and they helped us out of a jam,”She added, modestly concluding her amazing anecdote.

Gayle responded by hailing the Roberts’ act as “extraordinary” because people didn’t see “little black children interacting with little white kids in acting school”At the time.

The clip was shared widely on Twitter by viewers, who expressed their delight at the surprising connection between these iconic figures.
