Jujutsu Kaisen voice actor promises ‘fix’ to glaring mistake in season 2 dub

Jujutsu Kaisen voice actor promises ‘fix’ to glaring mistake in season 2 dub

Jujutsu Kaisen Yuji’s voice actor Arthur McArthur has responded to the glaring mistake in a recent season 2 episode, promising a quick fix.

An episode from the Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 English Dub contained a major mistake that was caused by difficulties in translating the original script. Toji, the voice actress for the character has addressed this online.

Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 English dub error ‘lost in translation’

In Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 episode 4 ‘Hidden Inventory 4’ at around the Mark 8:30Toji mentions to himself/remembers for the very first time after a long period of time, that he had a daughter named Megumi.

The line in the Japanese original subbed version reads as follows:

“I’d rather avoid extra trouble here. The blessings of your parents are upon you. But even with that blessing, you were all beaten by a monkey like me who can’t even use Cursed Techniques. Do not forget it if you desire to live long. Oh, speaking of blessings…That’s right, I almost forgot. I named him Megumi.”

When the English subtitles for the fourth episode of Season 2 were released last week, it was discovered that the original translation contained a serious error.

Instead of Toji referring to his son Megumi, the line instead reads: “Oh, speaking of blessings…That’s right, I almost forgot. I named my Cursed Spirit Megumi.”

This is a glaring error for the Jujutsu Kaisen series as Toji’s Cursed Spirit is actually the horrible worm-like creature wrapped around his neck, which stores various powerful weapons and allows him to switch between them based on necessity, and not his son – one of the series’ main characters.

As unfortunate as this mistake is, it’s no surprise that difficulties in translating scripts between Japanese and English can lead to minor errors like this.

To those avid fans who picked up on the mistake, the voice actor for Toji in the English dub, Adam McArthur has now addressed the problem and what can be done to fix it moving forward – certainly, it needs fixing before the DVD boxsets are produced for global distribution.

Taken to Social mediaThe veteran voice actor has explained that:

“There was some confusion based on a literal translation that came through and the studio simply made a mistake. They’re going to look into it and see what/how it can be fixed. It’s pretty awesome. I can assure you a lot of people really care about this stuff.”

McArthur then acknowledged that “The fact that you have your actors reading their source material, watching the subs, walking into their recording sessions ready to ask for line tweaks based on things they know are important to manga readers, are just a few examples of the effort going into making this dub as amazing for you as we know the material deserves.”

“We love you guys. We’re fans too. We are all excited about making something special. I think we’re doing it and we can’t wait for you guys to see what else is coming!! See you in Shibuya.”

This last mention of Shibuya is in reference to the new story arc that is set to be developed for the Jujutsu Kaisen series. Season 2 will take a short break from its continuous content until the August 31st start date.
