I’ve been sleeping in UK’s ‘first’ king-size gamer bed – it’s got loads of wacky features including a pop-up 43in TV

DREAMS has created a bed that is unlikely to be used for much sleep.

The retailer launched the first gaming bed equipped with all the gadgets that you could want.

It is also claimed to be the first king-sized gamer bed in Britain.

But starting at a cool £1,799, is it game on or game over?

We tried the Drift gamer bed to see if it was worth it.

First, we have two models, one in black faux leather and one in grey fabric.

I chose the grey design in the king size because it fit my plain room better. But, I can see the appeal of the faux leather one if I’m bolder than you.

Magical pop-up TV

The remote control can do all the major things, such as turning on the Bluetooth speaker and switching on the LED lights.

It’s amazing to see a UHD 43-inch TV rise gracefully, with lights shining beneath it like a superstar.

Although the TV looks great under light, I am quick to turn it off as it is too bright and distracting for me to play games or laze.

Although I like the headboard and LED lights under the bed frame, I would rather have the option to change the colour.

It’s an LG TV to be exact and buying separately it only retails at about £300.

The TV is only the beginning.

Gaming accessories galore

What are the two most important things gamers use these days to make a name for themselves?

The controller and the headset are required.

The Drift bed covers all of these.

First, there are USB-C chargers available on both sides for your PS5.

You can plug in and go for hours without any problems.

Even if you’re not playing, they can be used for charging your iPhone and Android phones.

Each USB-C port also has an audio jack.

You can also find a hook on the outside to place your headset.

Dreams has created a clever little tray underneath the bed that conceals all cables. This is great for people who hate wires.

Behind the tray you will find a huge storage area that you can access by lifting the mattress with a handle.

It’s time to turn it up

The Bluetooth speaker at the foot the bed takes audio from the TV automatically

You should not push too much cover down to the bottom, as you will block the sound.

If you’re looking to listen to music or just relax, the remote can turn the speaker into Bluetooth mode.

It has decent sound quality, but is not Bose nor Sonos.

Sleepy time

As a tech journalist, my bed expertise is not my forte.

However, I can tell you that the Dreams mattress is incredibly comfortable for me, especially considering the occasional back pains I experience.

It was selected by me after visiting a Dreams Store and using tech called Sleepmatch. This works out the best mattress based on how it feels when you lie on it.

The mattress will cost you extra.

Conclusion

As if getting out from bed on weekends wasn’t difficult enough, the Drift has provided me with plenty of entertainment at my fingertips – and my feet – that I don’t want to leave.

It is not cheap, but serious gamers care about comfort, especially when you consider the hours they can work for.

It is this crowd that will pay more, especially for luxury, that is most important.

If you are willing to spend more, there is a model that raises the back and feet.

It is great to have all the tech you need, even in tiny spaces.
