According to data from ZOE Symptom Tracker, infections in the UK are down by 11% compared to last week.

The most recent government data also states that infections have dropped by more than a fifth in a month.

King’s College London’s Prof Tim Spector who was the lead on ZOE Symptom Tracker app, said that hospitals remain in crisis, however, Covid is not.

Although pressure on the NHS was a major reason the UK had previously implemented restrictions, Prof Spector warned it’s too late for them to be reinstated.

His latest YouTube videoHe said that there was a sudden increase in cases and that not many people would be able to have Covid tests performed.

He explained: “I think Plan B is now too late, I think it would have saved case and lives if it had been brought in a couple of months ago.”

He added that Covid was affecting hospitals and that it had caused many to miss their appointments.

“I heard last week there was the biggest number of 999 calls ever recorded in the UK”He added.

Prof Spector stated that data from ZOE App shows that there are currently around 64,000 cases in the UK each day.

This shows that both double-jabbed patients and unvaccinated have been infected.

“It’s looking OK at the moment (Christmas) and I think we are going to see reasonable levels until the end of the year,”He stated.

“I don’t expect rates to go up, they should go down but not really disappear. But I’m expecting another rise in January.”

He stated that the best thing to do to prevent an increase in infection is to get completely vaccinated.

COLD SPELL

The European government is currently trying to control Covid infections.

Professor Spector suggested that the cold weather in Europe could be contributing to high case numbers.

He also added: “The rest of Europe is in for a bad time because they’ve got a vaccination programme that was slower than us so they are in that period of waning vaccination against Delta compared with that winter weather.”

His comments on Europe come after two million unvaccinated citizens in Austria were banned from leaving their homes unless for food or work.

Similar measures in Germany are expected within days. Germany already has one state that denies unjabbed access to non-essential shops.

Professor John Ashton was the former North West regional director of health. “may come to that”There are also British options.

Asked what he thought of such measures on Good Morning Britain, the former president of the UK Faculty of Public Health said: “I fear that it might come to that.

“We all need to be playing our part, and at the moment, it’s as though the thing is over.

We need to stop hiding behind our masks, social distancing, and passports.

“This is not about civil rights, it’s about winning the battle with this virus and not throwing in the towel, which is what seems to be being advocated by the business community.”
