It is very important to protect your smartphone from water damage. There are several strength levels.
First, don’t confuse water resistance with waterproof.
These codes may be found on the packaging of your device as IP codes.
IP stands to Ingress Protection. This covers liquids as well as solid objects (usually dust).
The majority of handsets now have some protection.
What is the IP?
What does IP rating actually mean?
Two digits are usually required for an IP rating.
The first refers to protection of solid material.
The second concern liquids.
The greater the number, the more durable it is.
An organization known as the International Electrotechnical Commission defines the code.
The solid particle protection ranges from 0, which is no protection, to 6, known as dust tight.
iPhones with a 6 rating after the 6S are eligible.
The liquid ingress protection is available from 0 – Zero protection again – all the way to 9K.
9K is a high-temperature water jet that can withstand strong pressure.
For daily use, you don’t need this level of protection.
Most people will now have a rating of 7 or 8.
A 7 rating means it can take immersion, up to 1 meter depth, whilst under water for 30 minutes.
But 8 is still a bit more, as immersion can be done at 1 meter depth or greater.
Manufacturers conduct a lot of tests on their devices and can tell you how much. Before you dive in, make sure you check their official website.
