Is Shetland on BBC One true?

The BBC crime series Shetland is based in part on Ann Cleeves novels.

David Kane was the first to bring the series to screen. He has been the main writer of the series throughout.

While Cleeves’ novel doesn’t exactly lift from true events, they are inspired by her time living in Shetland, where she worked as a former probation officer.

“It is more than 40 years Since I was first introduced to Shetland“Because I got there back in 1975,” said the author to the Daily Record, Jan. 16, 2016.

The writers have chosen to loosely follow the essence of Ann’s books and characters, while they create new stories.

What happened in Shetland Season 6?

WARNING: This article contains spoilers for Shetland season 6.

Season six brought back a familiar face: Donna Killick. In season four, she was revealed to have been a murderer. Jimmy Perez had reopened the cold murder case of Lizzie Kilmuir.

Donna was hospitalized with cancer and returned home to Shetland.

Things changed when Duncan convinced her to kill herself before she was sent back to prison. He did this by adding all of her medication to her hot chocolate.

Donna tried to frame Duncan after telling her lawyer before her death that Duncan had made her die.

In the end, Duncan confessed to telling Jimmy his side of the story in an effort to save Jimmy’s job. However, this proved disastrous and Jimmy was taken into custody in the last moments of the episode.
