Is Sabine Wren Force-sensitive in Ahsoka?

Star Wars fans are left in a quandary after Ahsoka teasers hinted Sabine Wren might be Force sensitive. Is this actually true?

*WARNING: Spoilers ahead for Ahsoka* — The Ahsoka series has certainly been bold with some of its storytelling and has left Star Wars fans with plenty of questions with a chief example being the fact that the titular former Jedi had trained Sabine Wren in the ways of the Jedi.

Sabine underwent Jedi Training

Prior to the release of the Disney+ series, the show’s various trailers and marketing materials revealed that Ahsoka had trained Sabine Wren in the ways of the Jedi, most notably helping her to improve her lightsaber combat after taking possession of Ezra Bridger’s saber following his disappearance in the Star Wars Rebels finale.

Ahsoka also took Sabine as her own, as Anakin had been hers.

However, before the events of the series, there had clearly been a heated falling out between the pair, the reason for which has yet to be revealed, which resulted in Ahsoka quitting as Sabine’s master.

As a result, Ahsoka and Sabine’s reunion in episode 1 is a tense one as there are clearly some unresolved issues that linger between them.

Is Sabine Wren Force-sensitive in Ahsoka?

Sabine Wren does not have Force Sensitivity in Ahsoka. At least, her connection with the Force isn’t as strong compared to a Jedi.

Sabine is not a Force sensitive like a Jedi.

In episode 2, Sabine, after recovering from the encounter with Shin Hati has a discussion with Huyang the droid. (Voiced by David Tennant), we find out more about Sabine’s connection with the Force.

“I never had the talent, the abilities,” Sabine says. “Not like Ezra.

“That much is true,” Huyang responds. “I have known many Padawans over the centuries, and I can safely say your aptitude for the Force would fall short of them all.”

Star Wars: A short story that explains Sabine’s ability to be a Jedi

Even though Sabine doesn’t have much of a connection with the Force, in a Star Wars 2022 short story it was explained that she can still be considered a Jedi.

Michael Kogge wrote the short story What a Jedi Makes. It takes place at the time of the High Republic and shows Master Yoda admitting a youngster to the Jedi Order despite him not being Force sensitive.

After struggling with the Jedi training, the boy protests, to which Yoda responds, “Then never a Jedi you will be, if that is what you believe.”

“Study you should, the Farseeker Lyr,” he continued, referencing Lyr Farseeker, the author of one of the sacred Jedi texts we see in The Last Jedi. “No great power had he, yet from his ink sprang some of the Jedi’s greatest texts. For though the Jedi and the Force are one, the Force is not what makes a Jedi.”

Taking all of this into account, it’s entirely possible that Ahsoka was training Sabine in the ways of the Jedi without the Mandalorian being able to call upon the Force.

We already saw Sabine learning to master lightsaber combat in Star Wars Rebels after she took possession of the Darksaber, so who’s to say that Ahsoka wasn’t filling her in on other areas of the Jedi code to help in their efforts to find the missing Ezra, regardless of whether she could use the Force or not?
