Is Chadwick Boseman related to Black Panther: Wakanda forever?

One of the blockbuster events of the year has arrived courtesy of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the sequel to 2018’s box-office-smashing and critically acclaimed Black Panther. The superhero movie serves as the final film in MCU’s divisive Phase Four and has already earned praise from critics and general audiences alike.

It was not going to be easy, even though Ryan Coogler returned to the helm of the project.

After all, the central star of its predecessor Chadwick Boseman passed away from colon cancer in 2020 and his absence, as well as his character T’Challa’s, looms high over the high-budget sequel.

However, a detail towards the end has encouraged those missing T’Challa’s presence to ask a question, or two, rather: Does Chadwick Boseman have a son, and is he in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever?

WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS ABOUT BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FEVER

Is Chadwick Boseman related to Black Panther: Wakanda forever?

No, Chadwick Boseman does not have any children but his Black Panther character T’Challa does have a son in Wakanda Forever.

Mid-credits of the sequel reveal the identity of the young, unexpected character.

We follow Shuri visiting Nakia in Haiti and it’s there that she discovers T’Challa and Nakia had a son before he passed of an unspecified illness in the opening of the film.

His name is Toussaint and the couple agreed before T’Challa’s passing that it wasn’t yet time for the heir to the throne to meet the people of Wakanda. So, Nakia has been raising him in secret, although Queen Ramonda knows of his existence and they’ve met.

Ultimately, Toussaint’s parents wanted to give him a normal childhood before introducing him to a future of royalty, expectation, and great importance.

Who is Divine Love Konadu Sun?

As you now know, Chadwick didn’t have children before he passed and the character of T’Challa’s son is played by Divine Love Konadu-Sun.

He’s a total newcomer and Toussaint serves as his first screen role to date.

However, the importance of the mid-credits scene suggests Divine will return to play the role in future MCU projects. However, it is still not clear when.

‘He meant both things to us’

Ryan has recently spoken to ComplexAbout offering an entertaining experience while still honoring Chadwick

“It was a priority for us that we make the film something that could work for audiences as a piece of filmmaking, as a piece of cinema, as a piece of entertainment. We wanted it to service all of those things, but we also wanted to make an ode to [Chadwick] and what he meant to us.”

He also added: “He meant both things to us. Chadwick was very much T’Challa for us, but T’Challa was only a facet of who Chadwick Boseman was and we wanted the film to be an ode to both of those things without sacrificing everything else.”

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has arrived in cinemas.
