Planning “The Wendy Williams Show”It was never in anyone’s plan to be without Wendy Williams. As the season approached, it became apparent that Williams was not in a place where hosting would be beneficial.
The 13th season began airing in 2021 and aired until the fall. The Hollywood Reporter reported that the show featured several celebrity hosts.. Leah Remini and Michael Rapaport hosted the show as guests, with Sherri Shepherd receiving the most views and feedback. And while executives hoped Williams would be back by mid-season, it soon became clear that Williams would not be returning –Forcing the show to closeIn June 2022.
The place for it is now the future Sherri Shepherd-hosted show, “Sherri,”set to begin in the fall. Williams had to be reminded numerous times that her show was closing. She still has ongoing health problems. The executives said that Williams is still unknown and that a new show would air. However, they know Williams is unique. “She was tough on many celebrities, and a lot of celebrities hate her. It’s also why she had success, she’s no holds barred,”Lonnie Burstein is Debmar-Mercury’s executive vice president of programming. “Almost nobody can go out and do what Wendy did, just off the cuff like that, which was maybe her most immense talent.”
