They say that every man is an island. But some celebs take it a little more seriously.
Pictures of Richard Branson, the billionaire,’s new Moskito Island estate, were released this week. The property includes a two-storey infinity swimming pool and a glass-bottom hot spring.
The nine-bedroom complex is part of three estates on Moskito Home – The Branson Estate (owned Sir Richard Branson), The Oasis Estate or The Point Estate.
When it comes to island shopping, the Virgin founder isn’t the only one. Here’s a look at the other luxurious retreats that celebrities have chosen for their summer holidays.
Richard Branson – Necker Island
Sir Richard Branson bought Necker island in 1979 for only $180,000. It is absolutely amazing.
For decades, the British billionaire entertained a number of A-list friends on the island such as Mariah Carey, former US president Barack Obama and Kate Winslet.
Richard, 72 years old, is reported to have spent over $10 million to turn the 74-acre island in to the luxury resort that it is today.
It boasts stunning white sandy beaches and lush hills with breathtaking views of neighboring islands.

It was empty until Richard bought it. Renting it out per night costs $40,000, or none if Richard is your friend.
It includes innovative gimmicks such as lighting systems that correspond to guests’ natural sleeping and wake cycles.
Faith Hill and Tim McGraw – Goat Cay
Faith Hill and Tim McGraw (both 55) bought Goat Cay, Bahamas, in 2003. They then spent ten years developing it into an exclusive island.
It is located in the Exumas district and is composed of a chain consisting of 365 islands. The couple renamed it L’Ile d’Anges (“isle of angels”) after it.
It boasts a 6,517-square-foot mansion and 5,000 square feet more of covered verandas. These verandas connect to the main residence via what are called pods.
It also boasts 1.3 miles of blue ocean frontage, making it ideal for outdoor adventures like snorkelling.
Tim called it the most beautiful place in the world. However, it was sold by the couple in 2021 at a staggering $35 million.
Nicholas Cage – Leaf Cay
Nicholas Cage, the Hollywood star and actor, purchased his 30 acre private island back in 2006 for $3million.
The island is situated south of Bock Cay. It is part of the Exumas Cays group of islands in Bahamas. There are three beaches on the island and access to protected deep water.
National Treasure actor, 58 has put it up for auction and set a price of $7.5million.
Although the island is undeveloped, it has all required approvals to be developed. Any buyer will have the chance to make their mark on it.
According to reports, he also owns an island outside of Nassau and one in the Northern Abaco Islands.
Marlon Brando – Teti’arora
Marlo Brando, a 1962 adventure film about Mutiny on the Bounty is reported to have fallen for this French Polynesia island while filming.
The actor, who died at the age of 80 in 2004, bought Teti’arora five years later. It is still open for tourists today thanks to The Brando, which is a resort located on the island.
There are 35 private villas located on the island. Each villa has its own swimming pool and beach, giving guests total privacy.
They can also enjoy Michelin-starred chef Guy Martin’s cuisine at The Brando.
To get to Teti’arora, guests must take a 20 minute flight on The Brando’s own private jet while rates begin from £1,900-a-night for one roomed villa.
Shakira – Bonds Cay Island
Shakira, with an estimated net worth in excess of $300 million, is one of music’s richest women.
It’s no surprise that she bought a 550-acre island on the Bahamas with Roger Waters, Pink Floyd cofounder.
There are five beautiful beaches, numerous waterfalls, three bays and breath-taking views.
The island’s crystal-clear water makes it a great spot to fish and do other water sports.
Roger, 45-year-old Shakira and Roger, are believed to have purchased the island with the intention of making it an eco-friendly and carbon neutral haven for musicians and artists.
However, their plans appear to have been canceled as the island has now gone up for auction.
Mel Gibson – Mago Island
Mel Gibson paid $15 million for the island in Fiji in 2004
The director and actor bought the island in the immediate aftermath of the controversial film The Passion of the Christ. The island is the largest privately owned South Pacific island.
It is a volcanic Island and is not yet developed. Only a handful of local caretakers are allowed to live there.
Mel’s island has a chicken farm, an amazing lagoon, and beautiful vegetation.
Leonardo DiCaprio – Blackadore Caye Island
In an effort to create the most luxurious and eco-friendly resort in the world, Leonardo DiCaprio (47), purchased the barrier island of 104 acres off the coast Belize for $1.75million.
Protests by local fisherman and business leaders have caused things to slow down.
After falling in love with the Caribbean country during a diving holiday, Leo is believed to have purchased Blackadore Caye.
According to property documents, the intention to build around 116 villas was to make them available for rent or purchase. The villas were to be built on a massive platform that is supported by pylons along the ocean.
When completed, those interested in scooping up one of the villas would have to splash between £5million and $15million.
