An inquiry revealed that around 380 children infected by HIV were exposed to contaminated blood products in the UK.

It’s more than double what was previously thought.

According to the Infected Blood Inquiry, the scandal arose after the UK imported contaminated blood products to treat haemophilia.

These were donated by people, such as drug addicts and prisoners, who were paid to give blood.

The worst NHS-related treatment catastrophe in history claimed the lives of approximately 2,400 people.

Jenni Richards KC was counsel to the Infected blood Inquiry. She wrote that “The Inquiry’s current assessment of the number likely to have contracted HIV using blood products in the UK is that 175 derives its current view from the HIV Haemophilia Litigation, which indicates the number of children who were still young at the time of settlement.

“The Inquiry estimates that the number of people who were children when infected is more than two times that number. “
