John Boyega, the late, great Michael K. Williams, are the protagonists of the life-or-death struggle in the trailer’s first trailer. “Breaking,”Previously titled “892.”
Based on actual 2017 events “Breaking”Follows a Marine veteran named Brian Brown Easley (Boyega), who reaches his breaking point when Veterans Affairs fails to pay his monthly disability check. Brown-Easley, who is running out of money to support his wife Olivia Washington and young daughter London Covington, sends a note to an Atlanta bankteller reading: “I have a bomb.”
A “Dog Day Afternoon”-style holdup ensues as the customers clear the building and the employees – led by manager Estel Valerie (Nicole Beharie) and Rosa Diaz (Selenis Leyva) try to stay calm. Brown-Easley is indeed carrying a bomb. He also has a plan to kill all the people in the building if they don’t meet his demands.
Everyone is aware of the hostage situation, from the media (including Lisa Larson, a TV anchor played by Connie Britton), to the military. Sgt. Eli Bernard (Michael K. Williams in one his last screen roles) leads the intervention effort.
As the clock ticks and pressure builds on both sides, Bernard must try to get through to Brown-Easley before it’s too late. “Everything you do matters,”He tells him this over the telephone. “You matter. All you got to do now is just make good, Brian.”
“Breaking”Abi DamarisCorbin directed it. He also wrote the script along with Kwame Kwei Armah. It was produced by Ashley Levinson and Salman Al-Rashid.
Bleecker Street bought the rights “Breaking”Sundance, where it won the Special Jury Award For Ensemble Cast at U.S. Dramatic Competition.
“Breaking”Premieres in Theaters Nationwide on August 26, 2022
