Sebastians Restaurant With Rooms is closing in Oswestry Shropshire after the last meal on New Years Eve.

Michelle, Mark’s wife, and he decided it was time for him to leave, but have confirmed that the bed & breakfast will continue.

The best chef says: “I lost all sense of taste and smell due to Covid and now I’m reliant on other members of family and staff before we send food out.”

The restaurant has received two AA Rosettes and two forks from the Michelin Guide. It also received five-star Trip Advisor reviews.

Mark commented on the closing decision and said that “We have been here 33 years, I will be 65 next year.”

“I think one of the main reasons is that our three children have had to work here, practically since they were born, and they are at a time where they all have full-time jobs – and we want them to go and do their own thing.

“Costs are going to be crippling for restaurants next year, so I think you will find a lot of restaurants will be closing.”

Mark stated that there are a few chances the restaurant will reopen later, but it is now time to slow down.

Sebastians is currently fully booked through the end of the year, with a waiting list of around 150 people.

The restaurant will close on a weekly basis, and it will only be open for breakfast and accommodation from the new year.

Customers and members of the community took to Facebook to send their condolences to the restaurant as well as share fond memories.

Sally Stewart wrote, “I’ve only been once and it’s lovely. I tried many times to get a table but you’re always full which is frustrating, but also great for business.

“I’m sure you’ll be deeply missed as there is very little outstanding places to eat in Oswestry. Enjoy your semi retirement.”
