BRITAIN’S foremost dog bite specialist says that a ban of XL-Bully dogs WILL NOT stop maulings – and five other breeds are behind the majority.

His company deals with 400 claims a year relating to dog bites, but currently none are XL Bully-related.
American bullys have been responsible for 73 per cent of dog-related deaths in the UK since 2022 but make up a tiny percentage of the total canine population.
McNally, however, says that the majority of dogs that nip his clients’ pets are not illegal. They include Japanese Akitas as well as Malamute Huskys. Jack Russell Terriers and Greyhounds are also included.
He said adding more breeds was “the very last thing that we need”, and he rejected the demands of Home Secretary Suella Braderman to make XL Bullies illegal.
He said: “For 30 years, lawmakers have struggled to implement poorly-thought-out legislation.
The last thing that we want is to see more of what’s already there. Dog attacks won’t stop if XL Bullies are banned.
If they’re banned, I don’t think they will disappear over night. Instead, I believe a new breed of dog that can get around the ban will emerge.
Owners of violent, aggressive dogs who are able to cause injury, such as Mr McNally of Slee Blackwell Solicitors said that there is usually “a criminal element” involved.
The man said that those who are involved with drugs or prostitution would likely want to keep animals, as these could provide some “protection”, for their illegal affairs.
The warning was: “Problems can arise when dogs are produced in large numbers and are given or sold to those who are looking for their own dog.
This is how many tragedies that we read about happen.
The law prohibiting the sale and breeding of some types of dogs, which is known as the dangerous dog legislation, should be “thrown away” to better protect the public.
He suggested that legislation which promotes and controls better breeding of dogs and their ownership could be the solution.
