Dr Karan Rajan, a TikTok star and NHS doctor, explains the worst things to do on the loo

TikTok is a platform for posting to your ideas Dr Karan RajanThis article will tell you what to do, especially if your goal is to avoid haemorrhoid operation.

He said, “Number one straining.” Everyone has anal pillows. They prevent us from peeing on ourselves, and they contain blood vessels.

“But if you keep straining on the toilet these blood vessels could swell up and cause haemorrhoids.”

His second tip? Don’t spend your life on a toilet.

“Remember to not spend more that ten minutes each day on the bathroom. Gravity is not your friend.

“The longer you spend on the toilet the longer the blood can pool in these rectal veins causing haemorrhoids.”

Haemorrhoids, or lumps around your bottom, can be very painful.

They will usually improve on their own within a few days. It is recommended that you exercise regularly to avoid piles, and that you cut down on alcohol and caffeine.

The NHS also recommends that you drink lots of fluid and eat plenty of fibre to keep your poo soft.

Dr Karan’s final tip was to never skip fibre.

According to the NHS most people should eat 30g of fiber per day.

Fibre is available in wholewheat and wholemeal products, such as breads and cereals.

Dr Karan stated that unless you have a medical condition, you should aim to consume 20-30g per day.

“So you don’t always have to cut the crusts off your bread and keep the skin on your fruit and veg.”
