Thirty years after Penny Marshall’s home run hit film “A League of Their Own”(1992) was a hit on TV screens. A new series will do the same. It will feature the heart of the story. The TV series was created by Abbi Jacobson, who stars in the series as well as Will Graham. It expands the range of storytelling and captures the stories of women who played baseball during World War II.
However, the series still centers around the Midwestern All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. There are four teams involved: the Racine Belles (Rodford Peaches), South Bend Blue Sox, South Bend Blue Sox, Kenosha Comets and South Bend Blue Sox. While there will be a lot of action on the diamond itself, there is more to it than what happens at the dugout or bases. Beverly’s chaperone is Dale Dickey. Saida Arrika Ekulona plays Max’s mother Toni Chapman.

Created by Will Graham and Abbi Jacobson, the series reimagines the world of Penny Marshall’s film through a more diverse and inclusive lens. Carson Shaw (Abbi Jakson) is the protagonist. She leaves home in Idaho to join the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League and snags a spot with the Rockford, Illinois, peaches. She meets all kinds of women dreaming her dream: Greta Gill (D’Arcy Carden) and Joe De Luca (Melanie Field) — two best friends taking on the world together, cautious Shirley Cohen (Kate Berlant), Canadian athletic farm girl Jess McCready (Kelly McCormack) and even immigrants from Cuba and Mexico Esti (Priscilla Delgado) and Lupe (Roberta Colindrez). On the other half of the show’s plot, Max Chapman (Chanté Adams) does everything she can to make a basebal team too, as an ace pitcher. While her mother is more supportive of her than her father, Clance, her best friend, is always there to support her.
