Who is Mark Monroe in Virgin River

Mark Monroe is Mel’s late husband who, before his death, was a talented doctor who worked in the Los Angeles ER with Mel and also a keen sailor.

He and Mel tried to get pregnant several times during their happy marriage.

After the couple lost their stillborn baby, they tried IVF treatment, but it failed. This led to their marriage becoming more strained.

Mel and Mark had five failed attempts at conceiving. Mel wanted to continue IVF treatment despite the pain it was causing her. This led to a heated argument between them.

How did Mark Monroe die in Virgin River?

Mark Monroe was killed in a car accident.

Mel suggested to Mark that they should have a break after their argument. She was driving in a storm home when Mel saw them.

During the argument, Mark took his eyes off the road and didn’t see the truck that was about to smash into the side of their car.

After the accident, Mark was taken to the hospital but his injuries proved fatal. Mel was by his side.

Mel felt enormously guilty about Mark’s death as she believed she was the cause and this led her to the decision to move to Virgin River and start again in the hopes of moving on – although even by season 4, this is an ongoing process.

Who plays Mark?

Daniel Gillies is taking on the role Mark Monroe in Virgin River.

Canadian-New Zealand actor, he has appeared on television and in cinemas since the late 1990s. He has played over 30 roles during his career.

The 46-year-old actor will be well-known to his fans for his work on The Vampire Diaries.

On top of that, Daniel Gillies also held prominent roles in the series Street Legal and Saving Hope while his biggest film role arguably came in 2004’s Spider-Man 2 when he appeared as John Jameson, the son of Daily Bugle editor J. Jonah Jameson.
