Shum shared his thoughts about being a actor. “first-year resident” meeting his new co-stars — and the series’ three remaining OG actors — Ellen Pompeo, James Pickens Jr. and Chandra Wilson.

Her iconic status, her many years of experience, and yet, her fresh, inspiring energy is what I regard as an inspiration.
“Iconic”Harry Shum Jr. is also the name Chandra Wilson, and James Pickens Jr. are back for their 19th seasons respectively as Miranda Bailey, and Richard Webber. He described the new cast’s first meeting the OGs, saying:
We met Chandra & James for the first time on their wedding day. It was a moment that will be forever remembered. It was a memorable moment. Chandra just gave us beautiful, but very real, almost life-changing advice. She encouraged us to be ourselves on set, to try to contribute in a way that feels authentic to who we are. That’s probably why the show has lasted so long. That advice has been passed down over time and used in many wonderful ways.
If I had to describe my ideal scenario for Chandra Wilson’s meeting, it would include a Bailey-esque motivational speech. It warms my dark heart to know that it actually happened. Where’s the video?
