Health adviser and lead pharmacist Simply Meds OnlineParvinder Sagoo stated that proper after suncreams and lotions are always recommended for soothing any burns. However, you can soothe burns right from the fridge.
This expert shares five natural remedies which won’t cost you a lot at the pharmacy.
1. Greek yoghurt
This remedy is cheaper than traditional sun-protective lotions.
With Asda selling a tub for £1.65 and Tesco selling it for just 90p.
It will provide a cooling sensation to your skin if it is kept in the refrigerator.
Parvinder explained that cold yoghurt can be applied to sunburned areas to soothe and cool.
“Greek Yogurt is rich in beneficial probiotics, such as Lactic Acid bacteria. This can help burns heal quicker and more effectively.
“You can apply a spoonful of cold yoghurt on the burnt area of skin and it should soothe the area within minutes.”
2. Honey
Parvinder explained that this can be used for sunburn as well, although you might think it’s only good for drizzled on your yoghurt.
Honey is a great remedy for burned skin because it has anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and natural antioxidant properties.
“Apply the honey directly onto any burnt areas and leave for around 20 to 30 minutes before rinsing off,”Parvinder stated.
3. Cucumbers
Cucumbers are well-known for cooling your eyes after a long night.
Parvinder stated that the salad component can reduce inflammation after you have burned your skin.
“You have two options: either cut up the cucumber and place it on the affected area or blend them together in a blender. Then, cool the mixture by rubbing the mixture onto the skin.
“For an extra cooling and soothing effect, put the cucumber in the freeze for half an hour before using,”Parvinder was added.
4. Carrots
Parvinder admitted that carrots, when eaten, can be an unusual food choice.
This is due to beta carotene found in the vegetable. It is a carotenoid that works naturally to aid the healing and prevention of sunburns.
“Other foods which have this natural ingredient are potatoes and cantaloupe,”The guru explained.
5. Blueberries
Blueberries, once called a superfood and rich in antioxidants can help protect your skin from the sun’s harmful free radicals.
Parvinder stated: “They’re also a great source for vitamin C, which can help to prevent wrinkles and premature aging.”
You should consume a lot of blueberries if you have sunburn.
“Working to prevent skin damage from the inside out can be just as beneficial as using topical creams.”
