The Disappearance of Two Beloved Channels on Freeview
Two channels are set to vanish from Freeview this month, including the much-loved Absolute Radio. Owners Bauer made the decision to pull the plug on seven radio stations back on April 2, which also included Magic, Greatest Hits Radio, and Kiss. Surprisingly, only 4% of digital consumption pertained to listening to the radio through the television. Despite this, a substantial 37 million hours were still dedicated to watching television in the final quarter of 2023, according to data from RAJAR radio. DAB currently holds the majority share of digital radio listening, accounting for 59% and a staggering 433 million hours. It’s worth noting that these stations were already removed from both Sky and Virgin Media last year.

Continued Access to Absolute Radio
Thankfully, fans of Absolute Radio need not fret, as the station will still be accessible on TV through the Radioplayer app, radio, mobile devices, or smart speakers. Samsung and LG smart TV owners can tune in to the stations via the Radioplayer app instead. Another channel making its exit from Freeview this month is Fail Army/Pet Collective, a streamed channel previously located on number 264. However, this channel won’t shut down entirely, and viewers can maintain access by watching online or through Samsung TV Plus.

The Introduction of a New Channel on Freeview
This month, Freeview is welcoming a new channel to its lineup: Seen on TV. As of now, there is limited information available about the channel’s programming. According to RXTVInfo, it’s described as a shopping channel that will exclusively cater to viewers in Manchester. Freeview advises viewers to retune their TVs to ensure their channels and TV Guide remain up to date.

How to Reduce Streaming Costs with Free TV Alternatives
Amidst the rising costs of streaming services like Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime, finding free streaming TV alternatives has become essential. While popular platforms like BBC iPlayer and ITVX are well-known options, there are numerous other free alternatives worth exploring. Discovering these options can help in cutting down on expensive streaming bills and provide a diverse range of content for entertainment.
