Netflix crime documentaries always have you feeling a certain type of way – especially when you find out they are based on a true story.

Adding to Netflix’s documentary library is Girl In The Picture. The production tells the story of a young girl who’s picture was sent to the police, and they immediately knew something was wrong.

What does the picture of Girl in the Picture say about her?

Girl in the Photo focuses upon Suzanne Marie Sevakis (a young girl who was controlled her adoptive father). Sharon Marshall was her name.

Sharon’s identity was unknown by the world – even herself. At just twenty years old, she was found unconscious on the side of the road. She was originally believed to have died from a hit-and-run.

She later passed away due to her injuries, leaving the question – what exactly happened to Sharon Marshall?

The true story of The Girl in the Picture

The tale of The Girl in the Picture started when Franklin Delano Floyd, her stepfather, kidnapped her and her three siblings. After Sandi Chipman had been sentenced to a 30-day term in prison, her mother took her hostage.

Floyd was their legal guardian at that time so the police didn’t get involved or take any action. Franklin kept Suzanne by his side, renaming her as Sharon Marshall so that she could not be discovered by her mother – or anybody else.

Suzanne, according to some reports, was very intelligent and wanted the career of an aerospace engineer. This all changed when Suzanne fell pregnant and her stepfather stopped her from attending college. Instead, Franklin forced her to work as an exotic dancer to make money for himself.

What happened to Michael Hughes, the baby?

Just as you thought the story couldn’t get anymore chilling, Franklin went on to marry Suzanne. Suzanne gave birth in 1988 to Michael Hughes. Suzanne was discovered unconscious on the side of a road two years later. Due to her injuries, she later died. Also, it was reported that Franklin wasn’t the father of Michael.

Authorities believed she had been struck by a vehicle, but this was not true. The trauma she suffered from was not consistent in a car accident, according to police. Franklin has not admitted to Suzanne’s murder and has not been charged with her.

After Suzanne’s death in 1994, Franklin abducted her son, Michael whilst he was at school. Franklin kidnapped Michael and shot and murdered him. Although the American killer admitted to killing Michael, the body of the victim was never found.

Franklin Delano Floyd, who was also found guilty in the death Cheryl Ann Commesso was sentenced to life imprisonment. He is currently in Florida serving his sentence and awaits the death penalty.
