Fallen Tree in Maine Campground Kills Young Girl

A Maine thunderstorm on Thursday caused a fall tree to kill a 9-year old girl. According to Bangor Daily News

The little girl was parked in a car at Sebago Lake Family Campground, Richville Road in Standish, where her family was camping.

According to Capt. Donald Foss of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

Foss reported Thursday night that roads became blocked by debris and trees due to heavy rains, wind and lightning, leaving 15,000 Maine residents without electricity. It delayed rescuers from reaching the scene.

The area around the campsite was heavily damaged, including the family’s camper and two cars.

According to the captain, rescuers, the child’s family, and nearby campers used chainsaws, tractors and the Jaws of Life to clear away trees and free her from the car.

Foss claims that the child succumbed on the spot.
