Extreme UK Weather Alert: Brace for 70mph Winds, Snow, Thunder, Lightning & Hail – Met Office Warning – The Sun

“70mph Wind Warning as Cold Front Brings Snow – Brace for Thunder, Lightning and Hail”

The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning of sustained winds of up to 70mph and a “cold front” expected to bring snow to various parts of the UK. This comes as Brits brace themselves for squalls that could bring thunder, lightning, and hail. Let’s take a closer look at the details and areas affected by these weather conditions.

Forecasted Heavy Rain and Wind in Southern and Eastern England

A band of heavy rain will push into the south and east today, according to forecasters. The Met Office has issued yellow wind and rain warnings for much of southern England, East Anglia, the Midlands, and south Wales. These areas are expected to experience sustained winds of up to 70mph. The heavy rain forecasted for the warned zones raises concerns about potential flooding of homes, roads, and train tracks.

Rain and Wind Warnings in Specific Regions

The affected regions are advised to be on high alert as various weather warnings have been articulated. Southern Wales, southwest England, London, Home Counties, East Midlands, and the eastern part of England have wind and rain warnings in place until later in the day.

Threat of Snow in Wales, Northwest England, and Scotland

There is a chance of snow falling in Wales, northwest England, and parts of Scotland. The Met Office expert, Paul Gundersen, highlighted that there’s a small possibility of wind gusts reaching speeds of 60-70mph, particularly in exposed coastal areas. The rain is expected to bring squally showers, hail, and thunder, with gusts up to around 50mph. Most places within the warned areas are likely to see precipitation, with localized areas possibly experiencing up to 30-40mm of rainfall. This, along with saturated ground, can heighten the possibilities of flooding and potential disruptions.

Inbound Weather Outlook

The weather forecast suggests that a breezy day is expected, with showers anticipated in multiple locations. Temparatures are forecasted to hover around the annual average, following a chilling start to the month. The weather is expected to be relatively drier on the Saturday, with rain and wind returning to the southern regions on Sunday.

Notable Weather Advisory in Effect

Specific regions have been issued with yellow rain warnings from early morning until early afternoon. Bournemouth Christchurch and Poole, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Somerset, Vale of Glamorgan, and areas within the West Midlands Conurbation are advised to be on high alert. Another yellow rain warning starting from the early hours of the morning and lasting until late afternoon has been formulated for regions including Leicester, Lincolnshire, Norfolk, and many others. Furthermore, wind warnings until the evening have been issued for a host of areas including Essex, East Sussex, and the Isle of Wight, to name a few.
