A school shooter who showed no remorse for his violent spree got a jail sentence of 1,200 years.
Devon Erickson (20 years old) was sentenced to life in prison without parole for the 2019 school shooting that resulted in the deaths of one and eight others.
Erickson is not the only one to be sentenced for his role in the shooting at Highlands Ranch’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Math School.
Alec McKinney, his co-conspirator, pleaded guilty to conspiracy, murder, attempted murder and other charges last year.
Erickson’s sole victim was Kendrick, an 18 year old student who tried to stop him after he entered a classroom carrying a gun.
Kendrick’s tearful mum Maria told the court on Friday, September 17: “Grant no mercy to this evil killer.”
Judge Teresa Slade said Erickson’s silence and lack of remorse throughout the trial caused his longer sentence.
She said: “The first time I see any kind of emotion from you is today… When your family is talking about the things that you were going to lose.
“The things you had before this.
“This isn’t your mom’s fault. You had the option to alter this course, but you chose not to.
“I haven’t seen and haven’t heard that you’ve accepted responsibility for this.”
McKinney, Erickson, and McKinney entered an English class to watch The Princess Bride.
They concealed handguns, and other weapons in suitcases.
Castillo and two other students leapt in front of the shooters and tried to hold Erickson against a wall, but was fatally shot in the process.
Castillo, a student from the University of Colorado, was honored for his courage.
Erickson was misjudged by his family because he was using drugs.
There were 48 charges against Erickson, including 31 for criminal attempt to kill in the first degree.
