Seven UK cities are shortlisted

Seven UK cities were selected to be on the official Eurovision 2023 Shortlist after around 20 cities expressed interest.

The host city will be chosen from amongst the following: Birmingham, Glasgow Leeds, Liverpool Manchester, Newcastle, Sheffield, and Manchester.

The seven locations were “based on their ability to meet a set of minimum requirements that demonstrate they have the capacity, capability and experience to host an event of this scale and complexity”, According to a media release.

Continue the release: “Given the short period of time available until the event will be staged, the selection process was heavily weighted towards demonstrating past experience in hosting major international events, as well as being able to demonstrate credentials in hosting a celebration of contemporary music.”

Learn more about the various shows

There are three stages to the songwriting contest: a jur show, a family and live show.

The first takes place the night before the broadcast and sees international juries cast votes for the countries participating.

The rehearsal for the musicians and their staff takes place prior to the live performance. This one is usually good for families that want to bring their children, as it happens earlier in the morning.

The live broadcast is a live broadcast that features performances by participants, where votes are cast live from other countries.
