Escape to the Country’s FAN pointed out a sad fact in a recent episode.

Since 2002, the BBC series follows a couple as they hunt for their dream house in Dorset.

Jane and Gordon had hoped to move to the South-West County and were searching for a detached property in the countryside.

Jules Hudson, the show’s host, highlighted how beautiful the county was. He spoke about its incredible history, landscape, and breathtaking views.

He also noted that 40% of Dorset land has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Host Jules explained how house prices in the area had risen a whopping 20 per cent from 2015 to 2018, taking the average house price to £430,000.

At the time of filming – four years ago – that was still £90,000 above the average national figure.

Gordon and Jane wanted to start a new life together.

The hosts stated that they wanted a fresh start because they feel stuck in a rut.

“We want some new challenges in a new place”.

By now, the average house cost in the Dorset countryside has risen by over £100,000.

Data from Rightmove has shown that the average detached property sold for £565,401 in 2021.
