This is the chilling video capturing the moment that cops were shot at by an armed thug while raiding a house. The Territorial Support Group officers of the Metropolitan Police stormed the residence of Koby Haik, aged 31, in Southgate, North London, on the 5th of April last year.
Thug Fires Shots at Cops
With a baseball bat in hand, Haik can be seen standing at the top of the staircase before firing two shots from a gun as the cops entered the premises. Despite the initial terror, officers managed to arrest Haik, and upon further investigation, it was determined that the weapon he used was actually an imitation firearm that contained blank rounds.
Connection to Drug Importation Gang
Subsequent to Haik’s arrest, it was unveiled that he had ties to a drug importation gang. This led to his sentencing to seven years in prison by the Isleworth Crown Court.
Investigation and Arrest
The sequence of events commenced with two women reporting the theft of their suitcases and passports while waiting for a taxi after arriving in London from Los Angeles on the 11th of January the previous year. From diligent CCTV investigations, the suspects were traced back to a vehicle registered to Eleanar Attard, aged 45.
Link to Drug Smuggling Conspiracy
Further probing led to the arrest of Attard and her husband, Nicholas Panayiotou, aged 43. Evidence retrieved from Panayiotou’s phone indicated a broader scheme to import and steal a substantial quantity of cannabis. The investigation uncovered a WhatsApp group chat detailing plans to smuggle 58kgs of cannabis into the UK from the US.
Gear Up Pose as Customs Officers
Panayiotou and Attard, under the guise of customs officers, were to intercept the imported cannabis from the two recruited women immediately after arrival in the UK. The textual exchange in the WhatsApp group further exposed details of the coordination to carry out the theft.
Collaring the Culprits
In a significant breakthrough, officers identified three additional individuals associated with the drug ring. Constantinos Zavros, aged 34, was linked to the drug suppliers in the US, while Luke Wileman, aged 32, provided advice on selling the drugs and even suggested attire for Panayiotou and Attard during their mock customs officer scenario.
Verdicts and Sentencing
The legal proceedings resulted in convictions for conspiracy to import cannabis, conspiracy to supply cannabis, and conspiracy to steal for Zavros and Haik. Additionally, Haik faced conviction for possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. Wileman and Panayiotou, on the other hand, were convicted of conspiracy to supply cannabis and conspiracy to steal.
Moreover, the sentencing accounts indicated Zavros receiving a jail term of six years and 11 months, Haik serving seven years in prison, and Panayiotou receiving a four-year and one-month sentence. Wileman’s sentencing is pending at the court scheduled for the 9th of May.
