Disney Plus has Avatar back just in time to be featured in the sequel

Back in August, without warning, James Cameron’s Avatar Disney Plus suddenly disappeared. After the movie returned to theaters only for a short time in September, Disney decided that viewers would have to purchase tickets and not stream it at home. Now, with less than a month to go until the long-awaited sequel — The Way of Water Avatar — makes its theatrical debut, the original movie Disney Plus is finally back.

And this is in contrast to the removal Avatar Disney informed subscribers on Monday that the movie was being streamed again.

Good news: The movie will be available for purchase again prior to Disney Plus’s price increase next month. On December 8, the current ad-free plan will be $8.99 per month and $10.99 per month. In the meantime, $8.99 per month will be charged for the new ad supported plan.

Disney bought the Avatar franchise alongside the rest of Fox’s 21st Century Studios in 2019. James Cameron was already working on the sequel for close to ten years. Filming had started in 2017 and production had begun. Cameron revealed in 2017 that he intends to produce four sequels, one each year until 2028.
