Rochester, New York Offers $10,000 for Prospective Residents to Move

A SURPRISING city was recently named one of the best places to live in America, and you can get paid to move there.

Rochester, New York: A Welcoming City

New York’s fourth-largest city, Rochester, was recently reported to have one of the best qualities of life in the country. Out of 10 cities, Rochester ranked ninth on the US News and World Report’s list, thanks to the city’s quality of life, value, desirability, and job market indexes, the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reported.

A City with History and Opportunity

Rochester is known for its history, major university, and, above all, its winter storms. The city in Upstate New York currently has a population of just over 1 million. The median cost of living in Rochester is $195,508, nearly half the median price of homes in the US as a whole, with a median age of 40 years old and an unemployment rate of 8.8%.

Incentives to Relocate

In an effort to attract more residents, the city of Rochester started the Greater ROC Remote program. The program offers home assistance programs and career services. Prospective residents looking to move can receive up to $10,000 in grants and incentives, plus another $9,000 in home-buying grants.

Other Similar Programs

Falling just below Rochester is Trenton, New Jersey, at number 10. Leading the top of the list is Ann Arbor, Michigan, followed by Boulder, Colorado, and Madison, Wisconsin. Michigan is also running a similar program to Rochester by offering incentives to keep recent college grads and prospective college students in the state.

Michigan’s Incentive Program

Michigan is offering 350 scholarships and internships to attract talent for the state’s electric vehicle, mobility, and semiconductor industries, CNN reported. The program awards scholarships ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 to residents who complete an internship and/or accept a full-time position in select STEM industries. Recipients must stay in Michigan for at least a year, and the job or internship must come through a participating company.

Future Expansion of Incentive Programs

The program in Michigan has already awarded 62 scholarships and has about 521 members of the cohort. Although the state has only allocated 350 scholarships for participants, it plans to expand the program strategically to attract more talent and incentivize residency.

Conclusion

Both Rochester, New York, and Michigan are paving the way for cities to offer unique incentives to attract new residents and talent. Programs like these show innovative ways cities are seeking to grow their populations and economy. If you’re considering a move, Rochester and Michigan should definitely be at the top of your list. Get paid to make a move to these dynamic cities and states!
