Kenny Johnson Opens Up About Saying Goodbye to “S.W.A.T.” Family
In a recent interview with TVLine, Kenny Johnson, the actor behind Dominique Luca on “S.W.A.T.,” shared his emotional journey of exiting the show. Johnson confessed that bidding farewell to his character and his beloved costars, especially Shemar Moore, was no easy feat. Reflecting on his final scene, Johnson reminisced about the heartwarming sendoff he received from his colleagues, which left him visibly moved. “The look that they had, because they know what this means…. We’ve all been so close to each other for all this time, so every single time I eyed them it was tough because it’s Luca leaving, but for me I’m losing these friends that I’ve bonded with for six years, every single day,” he revealed.
The actor also shared the intense emotions he experienced during the slow process of letting go of his character. Johnson admitted that at one point, he actually believed that Luca had met his demise on the show. He explained that during his final episodes, he was under the impression that his character had been fatally shot, as the scenes he looped only led up to that tragic moment. “Even when I went to go in for looping, they only showed up to the point to where I got shot. I’m like, ‘It doesn’t look like there’s any way that I’m going to survive that,'” he disclosed.
However, fans can breathe a sigh of relief as Luca’s fate on the series is still up in the air. Just as “S.W.A.T.” itself narrowly avoided cancellation, Luca’s future remains uncertain.
