All Quite On The Western Front is a classic in the antiwar genre.

Several film adaptations of the book have been produced over the decades, famously 1930’s Oscar-winning effort, and now Netflix is gearing up to release its own version which is being touted for Oscar glory itself as Germany’s entry for Best International Feature Film.

Early reviews for the film have praised its gritty realism which is helped by its hellish filming locations which bring the horror of the trenches to the screen – but where exactly was 2022’s All Quiet On The Western Front filmed?

After a limited theatrical run, All Quiet On The Western Front is now available on Netflix.

Based on Erich Maria Remarque’s legendary novel, the film tells the story of Paul Bäumer, a young German soldier who enlists in the army after being inspired by a wave of patriotic fervor back home.

However, Paul’s desire to see action and fight for his country is quickly quelled when he experiences the realities of trench warfare for himself.

Paul finds himself with more fallen comrades with every battle and is forced to fight to satisfy army top-ups, as talks of an armistice fail.

Where was All Quiet On The Western Front shot?

All Quiet On The Western Front was filmed in Prague, capital of Czech Republic.

The epic war story was filmed in March 2021, and finished in May after three months of hard work.

Prague was the host city for the majority production, according to the Prague ReporterThese maps show some of the locations that were used.

Barrandov Studios, located in the south-east of Prague, was used as a key location during filming. The crew also visited other locations around the area.

They include Milovice, Králův Dvůr, Libušín, Vinařice, Benátky nad Jizerou, Lišany, Chotýšany and Luštěnice.

On top of that, chateaux in Liběchov, Hořín, and Brody, as well as the historic Točník and Sychrov castles also served as notable locations.

Away from Prague, more filming took place at Chotěšov Abbey in the Plzeň region while Ústí nad Labem, Žatec, Roudnice nad Labem, Buškovice, Postoloprty, and Černochov were also used by the production team.

In recent years, Prague and the surrounding region have been immensely popular with filmmakers due, in part to the financial incentives offered to those who film there.

According to IMDb, more than 2,700 productions have used the location for filming with some of the most notable films and TV including Netflix’s The Gray Man, Prime Video’s The Wheel Of Time and Jack Ryan series.

Additionally, James Bond’s James Bond movie Casino Royale shot sequences in Prague along with Spider-Man Far From Home, Jojo Rabbit’s anti-war film, and the TV series Das Boot & World On Fire.
