Clarence Avant, a music executive who was 92 years old when he died, has passed away. His wife had been killed in a robbery two years earlier.
Avant, dubbed “the Godfather of Black Music”, was the chairman of Motown Records during the 90s. He won a Grammy award for his efforts.
On Sunday, he died in his Los Angeles home.
Clarence Alexander Avant’s children released a statement saying: “It was with a heavy-hearted heart that we, the Avant/Sarandos families announce his passing.”
“Through his revolutionary business leadership, Clarence became affectionately known as ‘the Black Godfather’ in the worlds of music, entertainment, politics, and sports.
Clarence left behind a loving, supportive family as well as a large group of close friends and associates who changed the face of the planet and will do so for many generations.
His legacy is a source of joy and comfort to us.
