Cardi B wins $1.25M in a lawsuit against blogger

ATLANTA — A federal jury in Atlanta has awarded $1.25 million to Cardi BIn a defamation case against a celebrity journalist who claims she posted false videos. Grammy-winning rapperAdmitted to prostitution, contracting herpes, and using cocaine.

Monday’s jury found Latasha Kabe, also known online as Tasha K and the company she owns, liable for defamation and invasion of privacy, intentional infliction or emotional distress and defamation against the rapper, whose real name is Belcalis Almanzar.

Kebe’s lawyers sent an email Tuesday stating that they disagreed with the verdict and would file an appeal.

Cardi B was awarded $1,000,000 in general damages for suffering and/or reputational injuries and $250,000 in medical expenses by the jury.

Kebe, a resident of Atlanta, produces and hosts a YouTube channel called unWinewithTashaK.

In early 2018, Kebe started targeting Cardi B. “degrading and harassing statements”The lawsuit claims that there are many things about her. “None of the aforementioned statements about Plaintiff are true,”According to the lawsuit. “Plaintiff was never a prostitute or a user of cocaine. Plaintiff has never, and does not now, have herpes, nor has she had herpes outbreaks on her mouth.”

Cardi B’s lawyer sent Kebe a cease and desist request shortly after the video had been published. Instead, Kebe posted a second video on Sept. 21, 2018 claiming that everything in the video was correct and that Cardi B was cheating on her husband.

The lawsuit claims that Kebe then attacked Cardi and made false statements on social media about her for months.

Cardi B was shocked by the statements. “suffer embarrassment, humiliation, mental anguish, and emotional distress,”According to the lawsuit. They also “caused damage to (Cardi B’s) reputation and character within her profession and industry, including but not limited to among her fans and with prospective business relations.”

According to the lawsuit, Kebe knew that the statements she made about Cardi B were false or she was aware of their likely falsity when she published them.

Kebe was harassed on her phone and threatened via Instagram. Her court filing also states that her home address was made publicly. She was concerned for the safety of her family and herself, and reached out the FBI Atlanta office. An FBI agent suggested that she find a new home for her family. She ended up moving her family to another city in another county, and had to change her number, according to her filing.

Kebe filed counterclaims to Cardi B. She claimed that Cardi encouraged her fans and associates to harass and threaten the rapper. Cardi B was involved with her associates in a robbery. “pattern of intimidation and harassment”According to the court filing, they made threats of physical violence against her.

Kebe was also suffering from fear and anxiety due to high-risk pregnancy. Her filing also states that she incurred unexpected expenses as a result of her sudden move.

Kebe stated that the rapper was guilty in assault and intentional injury of emotional distress. She should be required to compensate her for damages and attorney’s fees. U.S. District Court Judge William Ray dismissed Kebe’s claims in July. He stated that Kebe had failed to present evidence that Cardi B was the real cause of any alleged assaults and emotional distress.
