The original Hallmark Channel movies are a holiday staple, but they have been criticised in recent years for not being as good. Black leaders, exclusion of the queer population, and a lack religious diversity.
Insider spoke to her about the new Hallmark holiday film. “The Christmas Contest,”Candace Cameron Bure shared her reflections on the network’s recent steps towards more inclusion.
“Hallmark has definitely made changes in that direction, which we are all very, very happy to see,”The “Fuller House”Star was told by Insider
“It’s very important to me in all the casting that we do for the films, and it’s important to represent all people and all of their journeys and their family dynamics,”She continued by noting that every family is different. “so different.”
Hallmark’s first holiday movie with queer characters premiered in 2020. “The Christmas House.”In 2021, a sequel will be shown.

“The Christmas Contest”This is Bure’s 10th holiday feature with Hallmark Channel and her thirty-third overall.
“I’ve been with this brand for a very long time and I understand what it’s all about and who the audience is and what they’re looking for, because as a producer, as well as an actress, it’s what I’m looking for in the films. So I have taken that very seriously,”She said.
Bure is Lara, a businesswoman, in her latest Christmas film. After being unexpectedly reunited, Lara is forced to compete in a televised contest for money for charities of her choice. Lara’s love interest Ben (played Bure) “Fuller House”John Brotherton is John’s costar and is an accomplished athlete competing for his foundation. Lara is trying to raise funds for her mom’s senior centre, which is in dire need.
While there is plenty of banter throughout the film, Bure enjoys more serious moments. “Those are the moments where you get to be still and have real emotion and feelings, and that’s where you hope to grab the audience,”Insider was informed by her.
“The Christmas Contest,”BJ Harrison and Barbara Niven star in the film. It premieres on Hallmark Channel at 8 p.m. on Sunday, November 28th. ET.
