There are currently 11 confirmed cases of this variant in the UK. To strengthen the country’s vaccination defenses, boosters and additional jabs have been extended to millions of Brits.

However, Omicron can be tackled with a Christmas lockdown – which is what Health Secretary Sajid Javid insists we must do. “learn to live”Covid.

Brits are being urged to have their third jabs, and to start self-testing to avoid any restrictions during the festive season.

Masks are required to be worn at all times in shops, trams, buses, trains, and trams.

These restrictions are a drastic U-turn on England’s road map out of lockdown.

Brits were allowed to take off their masks this July 19, as the country celebrated Freedom Day and the end of all restrictions.

Javid said that Omicron is spreading to other countries and more cases will be reported in the days ahead.

Experts warn Omicron could pose a threat for current vaccines because it spreads quickly and contains about 50 mutations.

Mr Javid argued that a Christmas lockdown could be avoided if Brits got their booster jabs, and started self-testing as regularly as ministers promised. “front foot”Omicron is being fought.

Mr Javid stated: “In the race between vaccines, virus, this variant might have given virus extra legs.

‘STRENGTHEN DEFENCES’

“Our strategy is to buy time and strengthen defences while scientists learn more.”

Professor Jonathan Van-Tam described this variant as: “new kid on the block”Warning scientists around the world were left worried by this warning.

He told the nation at a Downing Street briefing: “Its always been the case that at some point, we’ll get a variant that gives us heightened concern.

“We are at that moment with Omicron.”

Today, two new London cases were reported – one in Camden, one in Wandsworth. Both have been linked to travel to Southern Africa.

Nicola Sturgeon said Scots should work from home immediately, sparking worries England could follow suit.

Millions more Brits now have the option to get booster vaccines, as the time between the first and third doses was reduced from six months down to three.

The age limit for booking a booster jab has been lowered to 18-years-old or older.

This means that 13 million more people can get a third shot before year’s end.

Children aged 12 to 15 will also be offered a second dose of the vaccine, in an attempt to shore up the nation’s immunity in the face of the worrying new strain.
