Brits Beware: Popular Hot Spot Introduces ‘Tourist Tax’ – Urgent Travel Warning for Summer Holidays!

“Warning: Algarve Introduces Tourist Tax – What You Need to Know Before Your Holiday”

A new tourist tax has been implemented in the popular holiday destination of the Algarve, which could affect Brits planning their summer vacations. Visitors to this sunny spot will now have to pay €2 (£1.70) per night for up to a week between March and September.

Understanding the Algarve Tourist Tax

The Algarve, known for its stunning beaches and warm climate, is introducing a tourist tax to help boost the city of Portimão’s tourism development. The fee will be €1 (85p) per person per night during the off-peak season between October and February. Children under 13 are exempt from the charge.

Impact on Holiday Costs

For a family of four going on a one-week beach holiday, this tax could add over £50 to their overall expenses. Despite the added cost, Portimão’s Mayor Isilda Gomes defends the tax, stating that it will generate significant revenue for the city’s growth.

Algarve’s Tourist Appeal

The Algarve was recently named Europe’s “Leading Beach Destination” for the 10th time, surpassing popular spots like Majorca and Sardinia. With more than 100 beaches, including over 88 Blue Flag beaches, the region offers a variety of beautiful coastal landscapes.

Reasons to Visit the Algarve

According to Algarve Tourism president André Gomes, the region provides beaches to suit all preferences. From expansive sandy shores sheltered by golden cliffs to secluded coves nestled among rocks, there is something for everyone in the Algarve.

Planning Your Trip

Flights from the UK to Faro, the main airport serving the Algarve, are readily available and affordable. Ryanair offers flights starting from just £14.99, with a travel time of approximately two hours. Whether you’re a beach lover, a surfer, or a family seeking a peaceful retreat, the Algarve has something to offer every traveler.
